Village panels in AP to curb COVID spread in villages

Those who are tested positive must be made to stay in home isolation for at least 14 days

KADAPA: District collector Chevuru Harikiran said on Friday that Village level Covid19 management committees are being set up based on the guidelines of the central and state governments for corona control in the rural areas.

In addition to strengthening and maintaining surveillance, screening, isolation and referral systems in rural areas, steps are being taken to further strengthen the basic health infrastructure and other health services so that Covid spread can be effectively checked.

The panchayat sarpanch will be the chairman while the convener of the committee is panchayat secretary. The panel consists of ward members, VROs, women police, ANMs, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and village volunteers.

The collector explained that the panels, along with the secretariat volunteers, would go from door to door in villages every day to raise awareness on Covid. Everyone should be made aware of self-care such as wearing face masks, adhering to social distance, and frequent washing of hands.

ASHA workers have been assigned this job. Village volunteers should go to every house and identify those suffering from fever, influenza and other respiratory infections.

The streets and wards where large numbers of cases are registered should be declared as micro containment zones and scrutinized from time to time. Areas where Covid cases have been reported should be regularly sanitized with sodium hypochlorite and bleaching powder.

Those who are tested positive must be made to stay in home isolation for at least 14 days. The ANMs in the respective villages should provide home isolation kits to everyone who tests positive.

He said ANMs need to upload their health status on home isolation on their app every day. Depending on the health status of those in home isolation, action must follow. If the blood oxygen level is less than 94 per cent, such patients be rushed to a covid care center or hospital.

The relevant tehsildars and MPDOs should keep special vehicles ready, the collector said.
