Tempers flare at press club over meet
Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at the Press Club in Somajiguda when two groups clashed in the middle of a press conference on Tuesday. The National Scheduled Castes Rights Protection Society (NSCRPS) president was reportedly attacked while addressing the press conference. The intervention of media personnel helped minimise the damage.
The Punjagutta police registered two cases following counter complaints filed by NSCRPS president Karne Srisailam and Osmania University student P. Alexander.
In the first complaint, Karne Srisailam (51), a resident of Mahbubnagar, reported to the police that NSCRPS members had met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Monday to bring to his notice the irregularities observed in residential schools.
He claimed that during the press conference on Tuesday, a group of people including P. Alexander barged into the conference room and attacked him, causing injuries to his ear and jaw, and then went on to damage his vehicle.
Later in the day, however, even Alexander lodged a complaint with the Punjagutta police claiming that when he and his aides went to the press club to conduct a press meet, Srisailam and 20 others hurled stones at him as a result of which, he received injuries to his head and legs.
