Notice on funds ‘fraud’ in SCCL

Petition claims Rs 2 crore of Singareni co-op society funds diverted by president.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has sought an explanation from the office bearers of Singarenians’ Mutually Aided Co-operative House Building Society on allegations of diverting over Rs 2 crores of the society’s funds.

Justice Shameem Akther was dealing a petition filed by an advocate Gundam Gopi who alleged that the Ramagunadam police commissionerate of Peddapally district was not taking action against the persons concerned, who had committed fraud to the tune of Rs 2,11,17,154 by collecting money from the 2,731 members of the society under the pretext of allotment of open plots in areas surrounding Hyderabad.

The petitioner appeared in person before the court and submitted that one Mr K. Srinivas Kumar, the president of the society and personal assistant of MLA Nomula Narasimhaiah of Nagarjunasagar constituency, was the prime conspirator in collecting the money from members along with R.V.S.R.K. Prasad, the secretary of the society and finance manager at Jaipur Power Plant at SCCL in Mancherial district.

He alleged that the two persons with malafide intentions had circulated a notice eight years ago in the coal mines of the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), stating that the members of the society would be allotted plots in Saireddygudem, Mucherla village, Kandukur mandal, Ranga Reddy district towards which they collected Rs 14,440 from every member as 25 per cent of the cost of the land as the first installment.

However, even after eight years, no member has been allotted the plots as promised. The petitioner submitted that the police were not taking action against Srinivas Kumar and Prasad owing to their political influence.

The court issued notices to the concerned police, the CMD of SCCL, the GM (personal) of SCCL, and the prime accused persons Srinivas Kumar and Prasad, directing them to show cause as to why the petition filed against them should not be admitted.
