CID intensifies probe into Mysuru shooting, police present at the scene transferred

Mysuru: The CID has intensified its investigation into the killing of Sukvinder Singh, a Punjab-based man who was shot dead by the Vijayanagar police on Thursday for allegedly offering to exchange demonetised notes.

Mysuru DCP Muththuraju on Monday transferred the five police personnel, who were at the spot when Sukvinder was shot dead.

He said that ASI Venteshgowda, Constables Mahesh and Veerabhadra, and the staff of Garuda-13 of the Vijayanagar police station, including driver Puneet and Constable Eeranna, have been transferred to different police stations in the city.

The incident occurred near S.V. Appartment at Hinkal. Vijayanagar Inspector B.G. Kumar, who reportedly fired at Sukvinder, was transferred to the Bengaluru Central Range IG’s office on Saturday.

As mentioned in the police complaint, the Vijayanagar police got information that three Punjab-based gangsters were allegedly offering to exchange demonetised notes for valid currency and were planning to exchange demonetised notes worth Rs 500 crore near S.V. Apartment at Hinkal. A Vijayanagar police team along with a Garuda vehicle rushed to the spot on Thursday morning.

One of the accused, Sukvinder, who was caught, tried to strangle Police Constable Veerabhadra and assaulted ASI Venkateshgowda. Inspector B.G. Kumar went to Veerabhadra’s rescue, but Sukvinder allegedly snatched the service pistol from his hand and pointed at the policemen. In self-defence, Mr B.G. Kumar allegedly fired at Sukvinder. He was rushed to K.R. Hospital, where he died during treatment.
