Chennai: 15,000 personnel to be deployed for counting

This has become a cause for concern as it might lead to law and order problems, and hence his party had urged the EC to utilise a spacious room.

Chennai: Over 15,000 personnel have been drafted to take up the counting of votes for the general election and by-poll to the Assembly constituencies, on May 23 in Tamil Nadu.

The Election Commission which has made elaborate arrangements to take up the counting on Thursday amidst a thick security blanket, has issued a set of guidelines for the political parties' 'counting' agents. The EC, according to DMK, organising secretary R. S. Bharathi agreed to use a spacious room at a counting centre in Aravakurichi, following a plea from the party. He said about 800 agents of 63 candidates of Aravakuruchi Assembly constituency for which by-poll was held on May 19, were huddled in a room which can accommodate only 40. This has become a cause for concern as it might lead to law and order problems, and hence his party had urged the EC to utilise a spacious room.
