Repairs to Ivanka road picks speed
Hyderabad: Over 70 per cent of the ‘KTR-Ivanka Trump Road’ located near the St John’s Church in Secunderabad has been recarpeted. Residents had repaired a portion of the road and renamed it after minister K.T. Rama Rao in protest.
Residents had pooled Rs 4,000 to repair the road. After the protest got wide publicity, the GHMC called for tenders and began repair work. Also in East Marredpally, residents took to repairing a stretch of road in the Secunderabad Cantonment jurisdiction and called it ‘KTR-Nirmala Sitharaman Road’ to goad officials into action.
Mr B.D. Sahu, a Secunderabad resident, who works in a nearby hospital at the ‘KTR-Ivanka Raod’ said, “It was very problematic earlier as there used to be water leakage and the road was full of potholes. We suffered a lot because of this for a long time. Our patients had a difficult time in negotiating the road.”
Though a school, an MBA college and a hospital are located on the road, the GHMC had ignored it for long. Students and their parents too were put to great inconvenience. “We are happy that we have solved the problem. The potholes were so deep and even those travelling in vehicles had a problem,” said Mr Mohd. Pasha, a resident who lives at Sangeet Crossroads.
