Bengaluru: CCB files charges against Mohammad Nalapad, 8 associates

The chargesheet names Mohammad and his seven associates who accompanied him on the night of February 17, when the incident took place.

Bengaluru: Two months after Congress MLA N.A. Haris’ son Mohammad Nalapad and his associates assaulted Vidwath L. at Farzi Cafe in UB City, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) case has filed a chargesheet in the case.

The chargesheet names Mohammad and his seven associates who accompanied him on the night of February 17, when the incident took place. The CCB, which has recorded the statements of 23 witnesses, stated in the chargesheet that it was Mohammad who started the fight after Vidwath’s leg accidentally brushed against him.

The chargesheet says Mohammad, before instructing his associates to teach Vidwath a ‘lesson’, demanded an apology from the victim, saying he was the son of MLA Haris. The argument started when Vidwath's right leg, which was fractured and in a cast, touched Mohammad. It ended in Mohammad and his associates attacking the victim, allegedly with beer bottles and an ice bucket.

“I will show you who I am if you don't hold my leg and kiss my feet. If you don't say sorry, I will kill you here,” a witness quoted Mohammad as saying, the chargesheet states. Vidwath was later admitted to Mallya Hospital, but Mohammad and his men followed him there and threatened him again.

One of the witnesses, Abhishek Gowda, son of actor-turned-politician M.H. Ambareesh, has told CCB that Mohammad entered the cafe at around 10.30 pm and the quarrel started soon after. Mohammad and his men started beating up Vidwath mercilessly, and when Abishek tried to intervene, Mohammad told him to back off. So far, eight people, including Mohammad, have been arrested, while a manhunt is on to nab four other accused.
