All safe in Vizag train fire
Visakhapatnam/ Gwalior: Two AC coaches of the New Delhi-Visakhapatnam AP Express caught fire near Birlanagar in Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning.
All passengers including about 150 persons who were travelling in the two coaches were safe.
Birlanagar is 105 km after Agra and 3 km from Gwalior. The incident occurred at about 11.45 am. Some passengers observed smoke in B-6 and B-7 coaches and pulled the emergency chain and got down from the train. The two coaches were gutted.
Railway staff were alerted and the fire brigade reached the site and doused the blaze. A medical van was sent from Jhansi. Among the passengers were 37 deputy collectors, who were returning from their training.
The cause of the fire was not known. Officials said the signalling system, weather condition and visibility were normal. It is suspected that the fire started in the air-conditioning unit atop the train.
