Thiruvananthapuram: The city police will not register a separate case against the law student who allegedly bobbitised Swami Gangeshanada Theerthapada alias Hari on Friday night.
Police sources said there will be only one first information report (FIR) on the incident in which the accused swami allegedly tried to rape the victim. This may enable the girl to take protection under private defence, legal sources said. It is understood that the girl has said in her statement that her attack on the swami was an impulsive act as he had dragged her into a room and tried to rape her. Sources said that the swami used to take the girl to different places in the state and sexually abuse her.
Amid reports that the swami had cheated the family of the victim of lakhs of rupees, Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner Spajan Kumar said the victim’s mother had mentioned about some financial dealings with the swami that went sour.
Meanwhile, a magistrate remanded the accused swami, who continues to be under observation at Medical College Hospital, to judicial custody until June 3.
Policemen said that swami’s relatives from his native Kolencherry in Ernakulam were yet to turn up at hospital.
Pettah circle inspector A.S. Suresh Kumar maintained that the swami has not yet given any statement to clarify his version on the incident. Sources said that swami on being admitted to Medical College Hospital had told paramedics that he had cut his genitals himself.
Meanwhile, the girl was shifted to the shelter home of the social justice department on Sunday, the commissioner said. Her family had shifted to a relative’s house.
