Humane gesture: Cops stop Siddaramaiah to let ambulance pass
Bengaluru: In a first of its kind incident, the city traffic police facilitated an ambulance carrying an emergency patient to overtake Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s convoy on Sunday evening.
Mr Siddaramaiah landed at the HAL Old Airport in the evening and CM's convoy was on its way to his residence. At that same time, an ambulance of Hosmat came from Suranjan Das Road carrying an emergency patient. The information was conveyed by the alert traffic police staff at Suranjandas Road Junction to senior officers.
“The officers, passed on the information to the CM’s convoy and after taking due concurrence of CM convoy officers, the traffic police allowed the ambulance to overtake the CM's convoy and move ahead to Hosmat along the cleared route,” DCP (Traffic-East) Abhishek Goyal said. The incident underscores Bengaluru traffic police motto that an ambulance in genuine hurry gets preference over other convoys, he said. Traffic police had drawn flak after incidents of ambulances stuck in traffic jams due to the movement of VVIP convoys recently.
