K Chandrasekhar Rao to unveil tourism policy

Plans are also afoot to introduce new concepts that attract domestic and international tourists and boost revenues.

Hyderabad: The TS government will come out with a new tourism policy on June 2. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who will head the TS Tourism Board, will announce the new policy on the state Formation Day, it’s reliably learnt.

The draft policy is being scrutinised by Mr Rao and Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma. The new policy will focus on heritage tourism, ecotourism, medical tourism, temple tourism, Buddhist and other circuits besides promotion of Telangana arts and crafts, cuisine among others.

The tourism department is also planning to promote the ‘Bed and breakfast’ concept that is popular in the West for tourists to have affordable accommodation in Hyderabad and other select tourism spots. Plans are also afoot to introduce new concepts that attract domestic and international tourists and boost revenues.

Mr Rao will himself head the new Tourism Promotion Board and plans to promote TS Tourism in a big way at the national and global levels. “We want to project TS as the best tourism destination in the country. The CM will announce the new tourism policy on state Formation Day. The policy is being finalised,” B. Venkatesam, secretary, Telangana tourism department told DC.
