Hyderabad comes alive with festivities as citizen's celebrate Id-ul-Fitr

Hyderabad: Hyderabad was a sight to behold on Saturday, as faithful Muslims, donning their traditional attire on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, offered prayers on the morning of the festival after fasting through the days in the month of Ramzan.

The smell of the special delicacy ‘Sheer Qurma’ wafted through the city’s streets, engaging residents’ olfactory sense, conveying that it was the day of Id.

Among the places to hold large gatherings was the Idgah Mir Alam, located on the banks of Mir Alam Lake in Bahadurpura.

There were also large gatherings at the Chilkalguda Idgah and the place of prayer in the Yousufguda Police Lines.

Omar Khan, an employee of Chest Hospital, who offered prayers at the Yousufguda Idgah, said, “On a festival, I usually opt to offer prayers at an Idgah along with my father, brothers and my children. We get an opportunity to meet many of our friends and exchange Id greetings.”

Azmathullah Khan, who offered prayers at an idgah at the Qutb Shahi tombs, said, “We have all our childhood memories here. It feels special when we gather here for the festival prayers.”

Mosques across the city were filled to capacity on the day. Saqib Masi, a resident of Attapur, said he went along with his friends to offer prayers at the Faiz-ul-Quran Masjid in the locality.

Shakir Sharief, who offered prayers at Masjid-e-Azizia in Musheerabad, said, “The faithful from the surrounding areas gathered here in large numbers to offer prayers.”

The day was one of congregations for the faithful, who invited family and friends to share the joy of the day, said Maria Arifuddin, a resident of Jubilee Hills, who added that people from across the religious spectrum celebrated the festival at their residence, including “Dr Ram Mohan Reddy, Satish Chandra Reddy, Partha Sarthy and Sudhakar Reddy.”

Nawab Mir Nasir Ali Khan, a businessman, said, “It’s a festival where our house is open for all friends, who have been walking in from the morning to extend Id greetings.”

Zafar Javeed, a resident of Basheerbagh, said, “Id is a festival that gives us a chance to meet friends whom we have not met for many months.”
