Kochi: Ramp, app to help disabled people vote
Kochi: As many as 24,86,705 voters, including 12.65 lakh females, are eligible to exercise their franchise in Ernakulam district where 21 booths have been identified as ‘vulnerable’.
"All arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth election process," said returning officer and district collector Muhammed Y. Safirulla. "A total of 4179 police personnel will be deployed on Tuesday across the district to ensure violence free polling. Live web-casting facility will be set up at 21 booths identified as 'Vulnerable' and will be continuously monitored."
A total of 2251 polling stations have been set up in the district with every assembly constituency having a women polling station.
"All arrangements have been made for ensuring basic facilities, including electricity, toilet and drinking water, in the polling booths. Besides temporary ramps will be set up for physically handicapped persons," the collector said.
There are 131 model polling stations where special arrangements like tokens instead of queue system, feeding cubicle, rest rooms and distribution of butter milk among others have been made.
The district administration has readied a special Android application 'PWD App' to help the physically disabled to cast their votes easily. They will be provided vehicle facility among others.
