Kasargod woman among three Indians killed in blasts
Mangaluru: Tragedy struck a prominent family here on Easter day after the serial bomb blast in Sri Lanka on Sunday morning killed Razeena Khader Kukkady (58) wife of Khader Kukkady, at Hotel Shangri La in Sri Lanka.
She was among the three Indians who died in the terror attack. The other two are Narayan Chandrashekhar and Ramesh.
Ironically, Razeena was supposed to return to India on Sunday. Her family hails from Kasargod and her brothers and relatives are now settled in Sri Lanka.
Razeena had married Abdul Khader of the Kukkady family of Bykampady near Mangaluru. The couple who are now settled in Dubai, have two children-a son and daughter, both engineers, who live in the USA.
Family sources said Razeena and Khader had been to Sri Lanka from Dubai on a week's vacation to spend time with family members there. After completing the vacation, Khader took the flight around 9.30 am on Sunday to Dubai.
His wife Razeena had decided to go to Mangaluru and was supposed to check out on Sunday afternoon and take the flight to Bengaluru and then reach Mangaluru on Monday. However she died in the hotel when the bomb exploded Sunday morning. Family friend Yathish Bykampady remembers Razeena as a kind hearted woman.
“She and her family had a close bond with people here. The Kukkady family is well known for their services to society. They extend support to people without any bias and are respected by everybody. During the Ayodhya riots, Hindu youth ensured that their shop was not touched. Such is the respect the family enjoys,” Yathish said.
“Razeena's husband is a very well known and talented individual. They are settled in Dubai. Even after his retirement, companies seek his service,” he added.
Khader had done his chemical engineering from NITK-Surathkal.
