Indian Coast Guard on high alert to stop attackers leave Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Srisena has declared a nationwide emergency from midnight on Monday.

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard has been placed on high alert along the maritime boundary with Sri Lanka on Monday.

Ships and maritime surveillance aircraft Dornier have been deployed on the border to prevent any attempts by suicide bombing perpetrators to escape from Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Srisena has declared a nationwide emergency from midnight on Monday.

The orders came hours after Sri Lankan government said that a local Islamic extremist group – the National Thowheeth Jama’ath may be behind the attacks.
