Society has to undergo a change: Venkaiah Naidu

Without morals or compassion for humanity, humans are mere animals, says Naidu.

Hyderabad: M. Venkaiah Naidu, the vice president of India who was the chief guest at the 1st graduation ceremony of Malla Reddy Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences said, “We can award death penalty to rapists but the society has to undergo a change. I signed the ordinance but the mentality and attitude of people needs to change. Without morals or compassion for humanity, we are mere animals.”

The vice-president also stressed on the importance of the reach of healthcare in rural areas. He said, “Nearly 62% of our population lives in the rural areas and it is not enough that the government introduces medical schemes to help them. All graduating doctors must compulsorily work in rural areas as well.”

Speaking about the money-making schemes employed by most industries the vice president said, “Prevention is always better than cure. As doctors, you should always advise your patients on how to prevent diseases with the help of proper physical exercise and food because health is the real wealth. Once one falls sick, they end up spending money on their health which they have ruined by improper food habits.”

He also stated that Indian cuisine is blessed with spices that are healthy and one should not fall prey to processed food.

Speaking about Ch. Malla Reddy, he stated that the students should take inspiration from him as he comes from a very frugal background and worked hard to open two medical institutions.

135 MBBS students from 2012 batch graduated with a 95% pass percentage. 64 BDS students graduated with 100% pass percentage. Girl power shone as most rank holders were female students namely Gazala Taiseen and M. Bhavana who stood 1st and 3rd respectively.

“All it takes is hard work, discipline, and dedication to achieve your goals. It gives me great joy to be able to give the society such brilliant doctors,” said Ch. Malla Reddy.

The director of Kims who graced the occasion advised the students to build their communication skills. He said, “If you can put your patients at ease and they can voice their concerns to you, then you are a successful doctor.”

The event was held at JNTU Auditorium, Kukatpally and was also attended by the general secretary and chairman of the institute Ch. Mahender Reddy and Ch. Bhadra Reddy.
