Chennai: Budging to the long pending demand of rail passengers, the Southern Railway has announced cross-sectoral EMU trains between Gummidipoondi and Chengalpet. Hitherto, the commuters travelling between Chegalpet or Tambaram and Gummdipoondi had to change trains at Beach railway station.
According to the Southern Railway press release, 4 new cross-sectoral 9-car EMU trains would be introduced between Chegalpet or Tambaram and Gummdipoondi from April 23. The trains will be operated from Monday to Friday. The new train will leave Gummidipoondi at 6 am and reach Chengalpet at 9.50 am via Chennai Beach and Tambaram.
In return direction, the train will leave Chengalpattu at 10.30 am and reach Gummidipoondi at 1.55 pm via Tambaram and Chennai Beach. Another train will leave Gummidipoondi at 2.25 pm to reach Tambaram at 4.55 pm via Chennai Beach.
