Telangana: Private medical colleges warned

At present, private managements fill seats by collecting Rs 40 lakh to Rs 1 crore depending on the college.

Hyderabad: The TS government has decided to fix a cap on management quota seats in private medical colleges. These seats also will be filled through counselling on the basis of merit. According to top sources, the state government is likely to fix the fee at Rs 12 lakh for management quota seats.

At present, private managements fill these seats by collecting Rs 40 lakh to Rs 1 crore depending on the college. Some 35 per cent of the seats are allotted to management. In this academic year, all seats will be filled through counselling on the basis of merit. Every medical college has a hospital and the state government has asked the management to earn revenue through hospitals and not from medical colleges.

The TS government had introduced cap-fixing for management quota seats for private engineering colleges. The system would be extended to private medical colleges from this academic year.Special chief secretary of medical and health department, Rajeswar Tiwari, said that, this year, 100 seats in medical colleges will be filled by the government through counselling. All the seats will be filled purely on merit basis, he said.

He said the government was yet to take a decision on fixing the fee for management quota seats. Any student can join in any medical college in the management quota on merit basis.
