The suspects are U. Karunakar, an autorickshaw driver, Shankara Chary, a goldsmith and Bhanu Prasad, a student. Malkajgiri DCP Ramesh Naidu said the gang usually targeted women in lonely areas.”They ask for water or an address and when they are busy getting the water or explaining the address they grab their jewellery and flee,” the DCP said.

Karunakar, Shankara Chary and Bhanu Prasad belong used to meet at a hotel owned by Shankara Chary’s parents. Karunakar came in contact with Chary and Bhanu Prasad during their visits to the hotel. Gradually, they became close and got habituated to liquor. But as their earnings were not enough Karunakar decided to snatch gold chains. In the eight months from September 2016 to April 2017, the gang snatched eight chains. During a snatching in Yadgarpally on Monday the victim managed to note part of the gang’s bike number (AP 12-52). “We checked 1,800 bikes and zeroed in on one vehicle (AP 12H O512),” the DCP said.
