Hyderabad: Major fire at scrap godown
Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at a scrap godown in Moghulpura due to an electrical short circuit. The scrap godown is located near Volta Hotel in Moghulpura. The fire spread rapidly as a lot of scrap was stored in the godown. There was a minor spark in the electrical wires due to fluctuations in voltage and the entire godown was gutted, said station fire officer P. Prem Kumar.
District fire officer Srinivas Reddy said, “There was a lot of waste at the spot. That produced a lot of smoke and it was very difficult to control the fire as it was spreading rapidly. However, with the help of five fire tenders from Moghulpura, Malakpet, Chandulal Baradari, Gowliguda and Salarjung Musuem and two mist bullets the fire was put out.”
“The main problem was with the people who kept crowding at the place. We had to make them move away forcibly. The fire could have spread to surrounding houses as it’s a residential area and caused casualties. But due to the timely and efficient response of our personnel and some strategic fire fighting the fire was controlled in time without any casualties,” he added.
