Hyderabad: Although the Telangana government is giving priority to the police department by providing additional funds for procuring vehicles, renovation of police station buildings, improving infrastructure, increasing special allowances etc. to achieve its goal of making it at par with the New York police, several police personnel are still not changing their behaviour and mindset when it comes to greed and taking bribes.
The Medak district police tried to steal a large number of pipes that were brought by Panchayat Raj and R&B officials for constructions of culverts at a village in Marpally mandal of Ranga Reddy district. The issue came into light when villagers held a protest.
Officials had brought four-feet diameter pipes for construction of culverts at Buchanpally village in Marpally mandal. On Wednesday evening, a police vehicle along with a crane and a 16-axel lorry came to the spot and lifted the pipes.
When villagers from Buchanpally and its ha-mlet village Jajigubbadi Tanda were informed ab-out the matter, they ru-shed to the spot and held a protest. As the number of villagers increased, the cops unloaded the pipes and left. The police official who was supervising the matter was identified as SI Jaffar from Kohir police station of Medak district.
When media questioned him, he said, “We thought that these pipes were not in use and were planning to shift them to the TS Police Academy.” Panchayat Raj department assistant engineer Mr Srinivas told the media that they would take stringent action on the matter. Marpally police officials meanwhile said that they had not received any complaint on the issue.
Meanwhile, the feedback system which is being implemented by the Hyderabad city police command and control has revealed that a constable from crime team of Banjara Hills was demanding bribes from victims to release their stolen property.
Recently, Madhapur police under Cyberabad had nabbed a motor-cycle lifter and seized several bikes. Among the seized bikes, one belonged to a person who had lost the two-wheeler under the jurisdiction of Banjara Hills police station. The Banjara Hills crime team, which had succeeded in compromising both the accused and victim in Lok Adalat, asked the victim to take his bike the next day.
When the victim visited Banjara Hills police station, the cops demanded Rs 2,000 for releasing his bike. The issue came into light when a tele-caller from command and control made a phone call to the victim for taking his feedback about the police’s behaviour in the case. The victim informed he had to pay the cops to get his bike.
Similarly, victims of ASI B. Mohan Reddy from Karimnagar, who was running an illegal finance business on large interest rates, are holding protests in the city for justice.
