Police arrest Gurijala Ravinder Rao, calls him Urban Maoist'
MANCHERIAL: Gurijala Ravinder Rao, former state president of Telangana Vidya Vanthula Vedika, was arrested after a police raid on his house at Kyathanpalli on the outskirts of Mancherial town on Sunday.
Police seized allegedly revolutionary literature and documents linked to Maoist activities and two memory cards from his house. Cases against him have been registered under Sections 120 and 120-B of the IPC, which refer to criminal conspiracy.
Producing him before the media, Ramagundam police commissioner Satyanarayana branded Ravinder Rao as an Urban Maoist who was in touch with Maoist leaders and their supporting activities.
Ravinder Rao was the first secretary of ‘SIKASA’ (Singareni Boggugani Karmika Sangham) affiliated to the Maoists, and is now in touch with Maoist leaders Bandi Prakash, Bhaskar and Verghese, the police commissioner said. Right now, Ravinder Rao was running a hotel, Vistharaku, Satyanarayana said.
The police commissioner said Ravinder Rao gave shelter to central committee member of Maoist party Varanasi Subrahmanyam and his wife, who were arrested in the past and released from jail on bail.
