Tirupati: Theatres told to stop bulk booking

He said that several complaints were lodged with the Election Commission against theatres where bulk bookings are reported.

TIRUPATI: Chandragiri constituency returning officer and sub-collector of Tirupati Mahesh Kumar directed owners of movie theatres across the constituency on Thursday, to stop allowing bulk ticket bookings and instructed them to set up CCTV cameras at the ticket counters in view of the model code of conduct.

In the wake of allegations that the YSRC is mobilising voters to theatres in vehicles and giving free movie tickets, the returning officer held a meeting with owners of all movie theatres across the constituency on Thursday at his chambers in Tirupati.

He said that several complaints were lodged with the Election Commission against theatres where bulk bookings are reported.

“The EC was concerned that the theatres are allowing bulk bookings during the election time. It was reported that political parties are influencing voters by getting them to theatres in vehicles and paying for the tickets. Those found to be guilty will be disqualified and have to face further consequences,” he said.

The RO further warned that vehicles used for the transportation of voters will be seized and asked the theatre owners to report to the EC if they found any such instances. He also directed them to telecast political advertisements only if the bearers have telecast certificates.
