Bengaluru: While the proposed Elevated Corridor project is drawing widespread flak as it would lead to large scale cutting of trees, the state government plans to build another one! The new corridor will be 10 kilometres long and link Hudson Circle with Sumanahalli (Magadi road).
The project has been handed over to the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd (KRDCL). Sources at KRDCL said the new corridor will have four to six lanes and will extend from the Hudson Circle point of the central business district loop under the north-south corridor. It will have dedicated lanes for public transport as BMTC and KSRTC in some stretches, they added.
This corridor will pass through Sheshadri Road, Okalipuram, Rajajinagar entrance, Vijayanagar entrance and Outer Ring Road junction. Officials claimed they have invited request for proposals (RFP) to get consultants to prepare a detailed feasibility report.
However, Pavan P., a regular commuter on Magadi Road told Deccan Chronicle, "Induced traffic will only make the situation worse over time in Bengaluru. It is very clear that our government should plan for metro trains or for the suburban trains, instead of this elevated corridors. The State government should at least now wake up to the reality and cancel the project, which is unscientific and a threat to hundreds of fully-grown trees in the city’s green heart."
