Telangana: IT sector to get seven reservoirs

The IT corridor will get seven new water reservoirs with a capacity of storing more than one crore litres.

Hyderabad: The IT corridor will get seven new water reservoirs with a capacity of storing more than one crore litres by this Ugadi festival. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is planning to invite Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to launch the programme. The seven new reservoirs will enable 30,000 new water connections in the IT corridor. The Water Board’s director (projects) M. Yella Swamy said this will bridge the demand-supply gap. “The board has also constructed inlet, outlet and distribution lines,” he said.

Construction of reservoirs at Hafeezpet, Nallagandla, Gopanpally, Miyapur, Deepthisrinagar, Kukatpally and KPHB is over and six are yet to be completed of the 13 assigned to the IT corridor. At present, 60 per cent of households in Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Serilingampally and other places have no water connection or get insufficient water. The remaining 40 per cent get water once in three days.

The IT corridor has 44,000 water connections at present and with the arrival of seven new reservoirs, 30,000 more new connections will be given in these localities. The water board is also expecting to complete work on pipelines from Raidurgam to Cyber Towers, estimated to cost Rs. 25 crore provided by the TSIIC.

This will ensure daily water supply from Krishna Phase-III to the IT corridor. The new reservoirs will supply Godavari and Singur water, said another official. Mr. Yella Swamy said reservoirs at Auto Nagar in L.B. Nagar, Snehapuri Colony, Kailashgiri in Kapra, Mallapur and Vydehinagar near NGOs colony will also be commissioned by Ugadi. Are these additional ones? "We have completed the projects which ones? before the actual deadline of April 2017," he said.
