Telangana to witness decongestion in four phases to ease up traffic
Hyderabad: The construction of flyovers, skyways, elevated corridors and multi-level grade separators to ease traffic congestion in the city would be taken up in four phases, at a cost of Rs 19,122 crore.
Municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao told the Legislative Assembly on Monday that the government was considering a proposal to connect Tolichowki with the PVNR Expressway.
“We have taken up a Strategic Road Development Programme to ease traffic congestion on city roads based on the comprehensive traffic study taken up by Lee Associates. We are planning to build four to five skyways over National Highways. We have estimated the cost at Rs 25,000 crore, of which Rs 8,860 crore would be spent in the Old City alone. A total of 54 junctions would be developed. About 18 tenders have been finalised and works have commenced in some locations. Administrative approval has been given for '4,035 crore to take up these works,” Mr Rao said.
Under SRDP, five packages have been devised to develop junctions, Mr Rao said. The first package would include the corridor around KBR Park, the second would cover junctions at LB Nagar, Bairamguda, Kamineni Hospital and Chintalakunta check post.
The third package comprises Rasoolpura and Uppal junctions, the fourth covers junctions at Biodiversity Park, Ayyappa Society, Rajiv Gandhi statue and Mind Space.
The fifth package comprises junctions at Owaisi Hospital, Bahadurpura, Abids GPO to Chaderghat and Malakpet, Cyber Towers.
First Phase: 21 junctions to be developed
Second phase: Development of East-West corridor (ORR East-ORR West along River Musi as skyway, and cable-stayed-bridge over Durgam Cheruvu.
Third phase: 6 corridors to be taken up
Fourth phase: 9 corridors would be developed.
