Teachers lure kids with free goodies in Telangana schools

Nearly 2,000 to 5,000 marketing' pamphlets printed by each school.

Hyderabad: Mineral water, textbooks, notebooks, two sets of uniform and much more...all for free. These announcements are part of the Education department’s campaign to attract parents to enroll their children in government schools in the 10 districts of the state.

Nearly 2000 to 5000 pamphlets are being printed by the staff of each school to give a brief idea about the curriculum, facilities and achievements of that particular school.

According to Telangana Progressive Teachers Federation’s (TPTF) city president Mr M. Ravinder, teachers have been actively embarking upon this “marketing campaign” for the last few years in view of heavy competition from private schools.

He added that in June teachers would go on a door-to-door campaign in colonies and bastis near the schools to convince parents to enroll their wards in government schools.

“Telangana government has adopted the CBSE syllabus with minor tweaks in subjects like History etc. The quality of education is also increasing with more focus being laid on English, especially in model schools.”

Meanwhile, the Ranga Reddy district administration has gone a step forward to impress upon the parents to enroll their wards in government schools. They have included information on academics like digital teaching prominently in their pamphlets.

It is the only district in Telangana that has digital classroom facilities including LCDs and projectors to telecast EDUSAT programmes in all schools. It has 456 high schools, including 220 success schools, having both English and Telugu medium in one campus.

Ranga Reddy thus is the only district that is giving private schools a run for their money in academics and facilities that are good if not the best, said Ranga Reddy DEO Mr G. Ramesh.
