Not allowed to take up board exams, students allege in Krishnagiri

The teachers asked Lakshmanan to contact the district chief education officer.

Krishnagiri: A class 10 boy of a government school was not allowed to write the public exam on Monday, apparently because he is not good at studies.

Amid complaints that a few private school students with poor academic performances are not being allowed to take up the public exams because it would affect the image of their institutions, a government school in Krishnagiri has come under the scanner now.

The student, B. Lakshmanan, 15, of Veepanahalli government school here, petitioned the district collector that he was not being given permission to appear for the exam. In his petition, the boy said that he went to the school on the first day of the examination. “But I was not allowed to write the examination. The teachers also informed me that I would fail and that will affect their target of achieving 100% pass results.”

The teachers asked Lakshmanan to contact the district chief education officer (CEO) and get his special permission if he wants to be allowed to appear for the examination.

In a similar case, G. Ranjitha of Thimmachandiram village was also denied permission from appearing for the examination as teachers allegedly felt she would fail the exam.

However, the district CEO V. Tamilarasu refuted the charges of the students. “Both Ranjitha and Lakshmanan were given hall tickets though they were absent for schools for more than three months.”

He said the students have been asked to collect their hall tickets from their respective schools and write the remaining examinations without trouble.
