Hyderabad: Sunday felt' hot despite low temperature

Thanks to a constant breeze, the nights have been cooler at 24-25ºC throughout last week, except for Sunday.

Hyderabad: Despite Friday (41.2ºC) being the hottest day of the month, Sunday (40.3ºC) felt much hotter as there was no evening breeze. Thanks to a constant breeze, the nights have been cooler at 24-25ºC throughout last week, except for Sunday.

Unlike the West, the IMD does not have a “feels like” concept where besides the actual temperatures, the data also indicates what it “feels like”. For instance on Sunday, though the maximum temperature was 40ºC, it “felt like” much more.

N. Narasimha Rao, assistant meteorologist at IMD Hyderabad, said the “feels like” temperature takes into account wind speeds and humidity to assess how one actually feels.

“The current temperatures and dry winds will continue for 2-3 days; we are excepting a change towards the month-end. The trend is a gradual rise in the maximum temperature, the highest will be recorded in May end or first week of June. In 2015, the maximum was 44.4ºC, we are expecting 45ºC this summer,” he said.
