Hyderabad: Citizens, beware. Throwing garbage on roads and open spaces at Uppal circle will invite instant retribution.
The GHMC Uppal division has set up CCTV cameras in the circle area to keep a watch on garbage-throwing in public. The cameras will also keep an eye on burning of waste in public areas. This is being done on a pilot basis in Uppal and cameras will eventually cover the whole city.
Deputy commissioner, GHMC Uppal Circle, Vijay Krishna explained, “This is a virtual war on garbage throwers. Six steps are being followed: identification of vulnerable garbage sites, removal of waste, placement of dumper bins wherever possible and installation of CCTV camera sponsored by one or other commercial establishment or resident welfare associations.
Over 15 cameras have been installed in Uppal circle. We have deployed a worker to identify throwers, at the first instance to counsel the person while the next action point would be embarrassing them with flowers and garlands in typical Lage Raho Munna Bhai style.
The last action will be a fine upto Rs 10,000 as per section 484(2) of the Municipal act. A banner is has been put up at the site mentioning the action plan. With this, some 70 per cent improvement is witnessed.”
Also the GHMC circle officers take to the colourful and traditional practice of ‘Rangoli’ to reduce garbage at all vulnerable points. Workers are painting the sites colorfully to discourage dumping.
The Open Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) in the city have come down from
1,116 to 289.
