Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna Hospital creates Guinness record in organ donation

All the participants were issued a donor card from the government of Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore-based Sri Ramakrishna Hospital has created a Guinness world record for ‘most people to sign as organ donors in eight hours’. The attempt was completed on Saturday at SNR Sons College ground between 8 am to 4 pm with a record count of 13,439 registered donors’ signing for pledging their organs in eight hours in a single venue.

Staff and students from Sri Ramakrishna Educational Institutions, PSG Institutions, Sri Krishna Institutions, and other colleges apart from various industrial houses, NGO’S and Coimbatoreans took part in this noble event.

All the participants were issued a donor card from the government of Tamil Nadu. Sofia Greenacre, the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, said that the college had broken the record set on December 1, 2013 by Indian National Students Organisation at Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium in Rothak, Haryana, wherein 10,451 people had pledged their organs to needy patients.
