Thiruvananthapuram: Audit in all departments for biometric punching

The meeting will be attended by GAD secretary, IT secretary, NIC officials and IT experts.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting on Thursday decided to conduct an audit in all government departments to check the requirements ahead of implementation of bio-metric attendance system. The meeting chaired by General Administration Department secretary Biswanath Sinha decided to gather specific details on the existing attendance system being followed in various departments and the need for installing a new system.

"Basically some of the offices in the state already have biometric attendance system. We don't want to waste money by removing the existing system. We need to see what kind of machines are these and the applications running on them. This is for integrating the existing and new systemd," said Mr Sinha.

The department wants to find out how many government buildings in the state need to be brought under the punching system. Another issue pertains to technology. Whether the model being used in Secretariat should be or other options made available. The fourth thing is that since the system has to be linked with attendance management the department will have to examine the networking system, what kind of networking is being used currently and in which all places.

"We will be able to find answers to these questions at the next meeting to be held after a week. The meeting will be attended by GAD secretary, IT secretary, NIC officials and IT experts.

All these issues will be discussed in detail and once these are sorted out the GAD will issue a government order on implementing biometric punching system in all departments.
