Kakinada:Thota rattles Jaggampet politics

The development has given a shock to other leaders from both Telugu Desam as well as YSRC in the constituency.

Kakinada: The decision of Kakinada MP Thota Venkata Narasimham to contest the forthcoming election from Jaggampet constituency has been keeping aspirants from the other three major parties on tenterhooks.

His stand has created a flutter among political circles from the three major political parties at the Jaggampet constituency in East Godavari following his meeting with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and seeking Jaggampet Assembly ticket to his wife Vani. The development has given a shock to both TD as well as YSRC leaders politically.

According to sources, the veteran political leader from East Godavari Narasimham has represented both Congress and Telugu Desam and held several important posts in the past. After the demise of his brother Thota Venkatachalam, he entered politics in 2004 and was twice elected MLA from Jaggampet constituency in 2004 and 2009. He held the post of president of District Congress Committee. He was also a minister for Stamps and Registration in the undivided state when Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was chief minister. He was the first person to sumbit his resignation from the MLA post when the Union Government declared state bifurcation in 2009. Later, the other MLAs resigned following which the Union government temporarily withdrew the decision.

After the bifurcation of the state, he joined Telugu Desam and was elected Kakinada MP. But, he does not want to lose his grip on his own Jaggampet constituency. Because of his poor health condition, his wife Ms.Vani is aspiring for MLA ticket.

Meanwhile, after Mr Narasimham met Mr Naidu, expressing his desire for Jaggampet constituency, the present Jaggampet MLA Jyothula Venkata Appa Rao (Nehru) went to Vijayawada and held discussions with senior TD leaders on the issue. Mr Nehru who was elected as MLA in 2014 elections from YSRC, shifted his loyalty to TD and faced criticisms. According to followers of Mr Nehru, he wants to promote his son Jyothula Naveen Kumar who is now chairman of Zilla Parishad, If Mr Naidu gives ticket to Mr Narasimham, Mr Nehru will have to look for another place for his existence. If Mr Narasimham joins another party like YSR Congress or Jana Sena, the present aspirant of YSRC Jyothula Chantibabu has to find his place for another party. If Jana Sena takes Mr Narasimham, the present aspirants can shed their hopes as the can be hit by the party.
