Kakinada: Electoral rolls revision assessed by CEC team

Video conference held with higher officials

Kakinada: A regulatory audit team on electoral rolls from the Election Commission of India on Thursday visited East Godavari district to observe the revision of electoral rolls.

The team, headed by Secretary T.C. Kom, Sec-tion Officer S.C. Sharma and Assistant Section Officer Shiv Kumar interacted with District Collector Kartikeya Misra and Superinten-dent of Police Vishal Gunni at the collectorate and attended a video conference by the state team head Vinod Zutshi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Election Officer Gopala Krishna Dwvedi from Amaravathi.

The team visited the polling station at Gandhi Municipal School Kakinada to check assured minimum facilities there. The members interacted with the booth level officer on public awareness of voter enrolment and participating in voting.

Mr Misra talked about amenities like ramp, drinking water and lighting at the polling booth and said that necessary infrastructure facilities were being provided with funds from Kakinada Smart City.

Later the team members visited the polling station at the municipal school at Peddapuram and reviewed revision of electoral roll with the Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers from Peddapu-ram, Anaparthi and Madapeta constituencies. The team members reviewed the comparative statement of electoral rolls, draft and final electoral rolls, EPIC and photo coverage and procedure followed in settling the claims and objections during summary revision of electoral rolls. The Collector said that SVEEP activities were done in the district to educate voters along with tagging of 49,664 PWD voters.

Around 8,825 voters of people representatives were also marked based on past 30 years data. Awareness was created among the public on use of 1950 toll-free number to verify voter enrollment to the public and rationalisation of polling stations was proposed as per the recommendations of returning officers.
