K Sudhakaran may not contest polls
Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader K. Sudhakaran, who lost to P.K. Sreemathy in 2014, is unlikely to contest Kannur Lok Sabha seat this time citing health issues, but the leadership wants him.
Congress has always fielded Ezhava/Thiyya candidates here. If T. P. Chandrasekharan’s killing was highlighted in 2014, now the death of two Youth Congress workers is going to reverberate Kannur.
Of its seven assembly segments, the UDF has got only three, Azhikode (Muslim League’s K. M. Shaji whose legislator status has been disqualified), Irikkur (Congress’s K. C. Joseph) and Peravoor (Congress’s Sunny Joseph).
The remaining four Ramachandran Kadannappally (Kannur Congress (secular)), Pinarayi Vijayan (Dharmadam) and E. P. Jayarajan (Mattannur) went to the rivals.
A leader close to Mr Sudhakaran says he's the only Congress leader in Kannur mighty to challenge the CPM.
“But he's not keen," he said.
"However, sentiments of party workers are in his favour. We hope he would relent."
DCC president Satheesan Pacheni is also not keen to contest.
