Adilabad: Banjara women urged to set up toilets at home

Adilabad: Adilabad collector Divya Devarajan, wearing the traditional Lambada women’s dress, appealed to the women from the Banjara community to set up Individual Sanitary Latrines (ISL) in their houses as a form of self-respect in the coming three months.

She said that ‘Great power comes with great responsibility’ and that they will get their Tribal thandas developed only with the great responsibility, after having their community people as sarpanches. The collector was speaking at the official programme of the 280th Sevalal Jayanti celebrations in Adilabad Town on Thursday.

She appealed to the Banjara community to discuss about social issues in their gram panchayats and resolve them. The collector said that they would try their best to uphold their rights as per the law and to create new ashram schools for the development of education among the Banjara community. The collector added that she would take steps to protect the culture and traditions of the Banjara community which are unique and must be carried forward by the new generation.

Former minister and Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna said that the state government is committed to the welfare of all communities and has been giving same importance to every caste and religion. He added that it is only the TRS government that celebrates all festivals.

Mr Ramanna said that they efforts will be made to create basic amenities in the villages as the government has upgraded the thandas as new gram panchayats for administrational purpose.

All India Banjara Seva Sangh National president Amarsingh Tilawat said that the state government should issue pass books of caste certificates to the Tribals to avoid fake caste certificates and ensure ST certificates to genuine candidates on the lines of Patta pass books to the farmers.
