Kamal Haasan hinted at his foray in 1982

Kamal himself confessed as much in an interview to journalist late Gnani in 1982.

Chennai: Even the most ardent fans of Kamal Haasan would have no qualms in admitting that their star is a bit narcissistic. Kamal himself confessed as much in an interview to journalist late Gnani in 1982. “I want to be heard,” Kamal said in the interview. “My role model was choreographer Uday Shankar. But I realised that there was not much scope to become famous as a dancer. So I switched my attention to direction, which, I later found out wouldn't be helpful as well. I'm happy acting became my passion as well as profession.”

Kamal has been saying that he entered politics 37 years ago when he converted his fans' associations into welfare associations. In the same interview, the actor had clearly spelt out that cinema wasn't his final port of call. “If I find something else to reach out to more people, I would certainly take it up. Right now I would be treated like a clown in politics. I will not do anything without proper knowledge,” he added.

Some politicians in TN are notorious for their unshakeable faith in good and bad times. Some have already termed Kamal's failure to visit former President Abdul Kalam's school at Rameswaram a bad omen. Kamal would sure not be perturbed. In the same interaction with Gnani, the actor had said how he became wiser. “Power went off during the muhurat shot of 16 Vayathinilae and many people on the set said the film was doomed. You all know what a big blockbuster it turned out to be. After its success, a lot of producers in the film industry started praying for power cuts!” he added.
