Hyderabad High Court seeks ED stand on India Cements chief's petition

While adjourning the case to February 27, the judge directed the ED to place its stand before it.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday sought know the stand of the Enforcement Directorate on a petition by India Cements Ltd chairman N. Srinivasan challenging the action of the Centre in designating the Special CBI Court of the city as the special court to try the cases of the Enforcement Directorate.

Justice Shameem Akther was dealing with a petition by Mr Srinivasan challenging the competence of the special court to try the ED cases and also seeking exemption from his appearance before the trial court in a case registered against him by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the illegal investments case of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Senior counsel T. Niranjan Reddy, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the ED has registered the case based on the investigation of the CBI in illegal investments case and the High Court had quashed the case of the CBI against the petitioner earlier.

Counsel K. Manmadha Rao, appearing for ED, submitted that the ED case cannot be compared with the case of the CBI and this case is pertaining to the PMLA.

While adjourning the case to February 27, the judge directed the ED to place its stand before it.
