BENGALURU: The second year of the budgeting campaign- MyCityMyBudget, garnered a total of 67,533 inputs from the citizens. Even this year in the Janaagraha's initiative taken up in association with BBMP, citizens have demanded good roads with 21% of the participants voting for it.
Under the banner 'My City My Budget', Janaagraha started collecting inputs from citizens from January 11 providing an opportunity to them to actively participate in local municipal budget process.
Apart from their online and field campaign, the organisers this time in order to reach out to people from all walks of life, forms were made available at Indira Canteens in the city.
Citizens were given an option to choose from 19 categories. The grand total of 67,533 inputs for the budget for 2018-19 includes the earlier budget inputs of 44,276, which are yet to be taken up for implementation.
In the top five categories of civic issues for which citizens submitted budget inputs this year, 21% were for better roads, 19% for health and sanitation, 18% for footpaths & walkability, 15 % for trees, parks and playgrounds and 8% for crime & safety.
After submitting the inputs to Mayor Sampath Raj and BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad, Ms Sapna Karim, head, Civic Participation, Janagraaha said, "The above were the top five categories in the last year’s campaign too."
Mayor said that he will look into the requests actively and include them in the forthcoming budget.
