Hyderabad: Flyover to ease traffic

Relief for commuters between JNTU and Hitec City.

Hyderabad: Commuters from the West-eastern corridor of the city, that is, from JNTU to Mind Space, the stretch infamously known for its acute traffic issues, are set to get a breather.

Construction of a flyover from Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction, which starts from Majestic Shopping mall and ends before Malaysian township, is under way.

Presently the flyover connecting JNTU and Madhapur is highly congested with growing number of vehicles coming towards the IT corridor.

The planned flyover will offer considerable relief from traffic jams and also reduce fuel consumption. The infrastructure development is part of the Strategic Road Development plan.

“It will be a 1,230 metre (more than a kilometre), three-lane bidirectional flyover, 20 metres in width. It will start from Majestic Shopping mall and end before Malaysian township. The excavation and levelling works are under way. The total construction cost will be around '65 crores. This flyover will offer considerable relief to traffic moving from JNTU to Hitec city and vice Versa and also reduce the fuel consumption, resulting in a reduction of emissions and consequently pollution of the environment,” said Dr B. Janardhan Reddy, GHMC Commissioner.

Also proposed is a unidirectional underpass at Ayyappa Society junction. This 450-metre long and 10-metre wide underpass will help traffic move from Ayyappa Society to Kondapur and vice versa.

Meanwhile, the Mind space junction, the city’s crucial crossroads, gets one bidirectional flyover and one bidirectional underpass with service roads. At present there is a 3 lane bidirectional traffic flow from Bio Diversity to Hitech City and 3 lanes from Inorbit mall to Hytech Raddison. After completion of the project, additional 3 lanes bidirectional traffic flow from Bio Diversity to Hitec City and additional 2 lanes bidirectional traffic flow from Inorbit mall to Hytech Raddison will be made possible.
