Visakhapatnam: GVMC elections process discussed
Visakhapatnam: The National Election Forum (NEF) representing the civil society organisations in and around Visakhapatnam met at Bapu Bhavan in Dwaraka Nagar on Sunday to discuss the ways and means to promote awareness about the role of civil society in the coming GVMC elections and the general elections thereafter.
Keeping in view the suggestions made by several NGOs and individuals who attended the meeting, the NEF decided to formulate an action plan for ensuring inclusion of all existing voters in the electoral rolls, enrolling new voters, reaching out to the different wards, especially the slums, encouraging the residents to identify and discuss their local problems and formulate their respective ‘Praja Manifestos’ and encouraging local candidates to contest the GVMC elections.
Candidates who are public spirited, have a clean track record and are sensitive to the problems of their respective areas will be encouraged to contest. In particular, the NEF will focus on the slums.
