Retired army officers say, stay on at Siachen

They were speaking at a conference on national security imperatives at Osmania University.

Hyderabad: Retired Army officers on Sunday said the status quo should be continued at the Siachen glacier and that the government should be exploring the option of annexing Gilgit-Baltistan which lies further ahead.

They were speaking at a conference on national security imperatives at Osmania University.

Brig. Krishnaiah (Retd) said demilitarising Siachen would mean trusting that Pakistan would not try to conquer the glacier after India vacates the place. “It is not an option,” he said.

Col. Dr Mohan Kumar (Retd) said Siachen gave India a strategic advantage to keep China at bay. Both the officers had served in Kashmir.
