JNU row: SC directs all parties to share reports on Patiala House Court violence

The apex court clarified that it will only examine the reported violence at the Patiala House court.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed all concerned parties to share the reports among themselves regarding the violence at the Patiala House Court premises before the next hearing on March 10.

The Registrar of Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court Panel, Delhi Police, Bar Council, Delhi High Court's Administrative Committee and the counsel of the accused submitted their reports today.

During the hearing, Solicitor General Soli Sorabjee requested the court not to make any observation, which may prejudice the proceedings pending before the High Court as JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar's bail plea is set to be heard tomorrow.

In reply, the apex court said that they are not going to decide on the merit of the case but will only examine the reported violence at the Patiala House Court.

The journalists and students bore the brunt of the violence outside the Patiala House Court last week as they were attacked by a group of lawyers when Kanhaiya was to be produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Loveleen.

Defying Supreme Court orders, a large group of men dressed in lawyers' robes barged into the Patiala House court complex and attacked Kanhaiya Kumar at the court premises on the day of his hearing. The lawyers allegedly beat up a journalist too.
