50 women stage flash protest at Masab Tank

Cops threaten women with arrest, take 1 in van.

Hyderabad: Fifty women who had gathered for a flash protest in Masab Tank were pulled and threatened with arrest by policewomen and ordered to disperse. The women were merely standing with anti-CAA placards.

The women gathered at 10 am and stood with placards outside the hockey ground at Masab Tank. They were there for 15 minutes. They were only standing; there were no speeches or sloganeering. Despite this, the police told them to leave immediately. A male police officer told them: “Goshamahal police station mein cases register karenge agar nahi jaate.”

When the women didn’t budge they were pulled and threatened. The women requested to be allowed to stand for one hour in protest but the police refused to listen. They pushed one lady into the police van which led to a tense situation.

Angry women circulated videos of the police behaviour and asked why they are behaving in this manner. A woman protester said, “When the chief minister KCR has voted against CAA in the Parliament, why is the police of Hyderabad behaving like this?”

The women dispersed but they were very angry with the police’s unwarranted behaviour.
