Telangana Assembly polls: Special state awards for fair polls

The awards were given for adopting best practices for implementing the model code of conduct.

Hyderabad: Six IAS officers and an IPS official were given state awards for following best practices during the recent Telangana state Assembly polls.

While city police commissioner Anjani Kumar is the only IPS officer to get an award, principal secretary Somesh Kumar and GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore were among the six IAS officers.

The others to win the award were collectors D. Divya (Adilabad) and Dr V. Venakteshwari (Bhup-alapally), additional chief electoral officer Buddaha Prakash and GHMC additional commissioner Amrapali Kata.

The awards were given for adopting best practices for implementing the model code of conduct, monitoring election expenditure, voters education with co-ordination between officials from the Chief Electoral Officer to booth-level official along with police, excise and income-tax officers.

The release said that the awards were given due to the four per cent increase in polling from 69.50 in 2014 to 73.4 in 2018 apart from the seizure of '147 crore cash. Another 15 special awards were given to section officers, assistant section officers, tahsildars and data processing officers.
