Sanghi' tag to defame me: NK Premachandran

The UDF and Congress stand is genuine and people will accept our position, he added.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran said CPM was is branding him “Sanghi” because of his strong intervention in Triple Talaq Bill in Parliament which went down well with the minority community.

Premachandran said he had moved a statutory resolution against the promulgation of ordinance, initiated the discussion and participated vociferously in the debate. “My stand in Parliament has been well received by secular sections especially Muslim community. I have been getting invitations for receptions in many parts of the country. This has agitated the CPM because Muslim community is a dominant force in Kollam. They want to tarnish my image to sabotage the support being given to me by Muslims,” he said.

“No person in my constituency or Kerala will believe that I have links with RSS. They believe in insulting people. I have fought the BJP in Parliament more than the CPM members. Almost 75 percent of the resolutions from the opposition side against the government have been by me,” the MP said.

He said after the devastating floods the BJP’s divisive agenda had lost its relevance. But CPM gave rebirth to BJP in Sabarimala issue, he alleged.

“The UDF and Congress stand is genuine and people will accept our position,” he added.

According to Premachandran, the CPM was working on an agenda to strengthen BJP and weaken the UDF to pave the way for its continuity in power. Pinarayi Vijayan wants to divide the Kerala society into “forward and backward” castes while the BJP wants to create a Hindu and non Hindu division.

He said the LDF government had insulted the sentiments of a sizable section of society in Sabarimala issue. The government or CPM may not be interested in faith, but in a democratic set up it is their bounden duty to safeguard the belief of people.

Premachandran said the formation of a secular democratic government led by Congress would be the focal issue in next elections.
