Hyderabad: Carcasses of more than 10 dogs were found on the streets and bushes of Ameenpur in Sangareddy district after residents allegedly poisoned them.
The dogs were allegedly fed the poison on Sunday night to rid the area of dog menace. The matter came to light the next day.
Animal activists have condemned the action and demanded stricter implementation of existing laws.
People For Animals (PFA) has written to the Ameenpur station house officer demanding action in this regard, as it was a clear case of violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.
They have described the killing as “most inhumane and brutal”.
Ameenpur police station registered a case on Monday and began an inquiry into the matter.
Police officials said they will take action after knowing the exact reason for the incident. They have called up veterinary doctors to know the reason for death of the dogs, and the test results are yet to come out from the doctors.
Similar dog deaths owing to poisoning have been reported in the city in the past too.
Last October, bodies of around 100 stray dogs were found near Infosys. The dogs had been poisoned to death. There were also instances when around four puppies were burnt alive in the city in November 2018....
