Indian Air Force exhibits its might, urges student to join

Air Force planes and helicopters like Kiran Mark-1, PC-7 and MI-8 were on display. Guns like INSAS, LMG and pistols are also kept for public witness.

Chennai: School students and civilans of Chennai had a glimpse of Indian Air Force’s weapons and planes as Tambaram Air Force station was opened its gates on Sunday.

“The exhibition has been conducted to mark the upcoming Republic day on January 26. In the one-day exhibition titled ‘know your force’, public and school students are being allowed to witness our strength,” an IAF official said.

Air Force planes and helicopters like Kiran Mark-1, PC-7 and MI-8 were displayed among other weapons.

“Guns such as INSAS, LMG and pistols are also kept for the public witness. The main motive behind the exhibition is to sensitise the civilians about our strengths and motivating students to join the force”, the official added.

Students from schools and colleges seen thronging near the stall where ejection chairs and missiles were displayed. The Air Force officials explained the operation and importance of the ejection chair.

“To see fighter jets, guns and missiles at close gave us an amazing experience. The officials also explained about the weapons and their functions”, N. Karthik Suresh, a college student said.

Meanwhile, the Air Force also utilized the opportunity and distributed pamphlets to the visiting school and college students imploring them to join the force.

“The exhibition has been conducted for the people. So that they could experience the life in Air Force. The pamphlets have all the information in that regard,” the official added. Air Force also held a run as a part of R-day celebration and exhibition in which trainees and officers participated.
