Hyderabad minorities units' work poor: AK Khan
Hyderabad: TS government adviser on minorities affairs A.K. Khan on Saturday admitted that there was lack of accountability in the minority welfare department.
Mr Khan said the department had 11 institutions. “Except the Haj Committee and residential schools, the other units have to be upgraded and work should be audited,” Mr Khan told mediapersons at a ‘Meet the Press’ programme organized by the Hyderabad Union of Working Journal-ists.
He said computers given to various institutions for training were not being utilised,” he said.
In order to provide better education for minorities, libraries must be encouraged along with training centres. “If both are clubbed, we can motivate students to go to libraries and complete various courses.
He said despite Urdu being the second official language, no great effort had been taken for the development of the language. Urdu would get the status of second language in the new districts that were created recently, he said.
A budget of about Rs 8 crore was allocated to the Urdu Academy but the results were not satisfactory. “We have to figure out the mismanagement in funds,” he said.
Mr Khan said, the Budget for minorities had been enhanced substantially, and most of it has been spent on education, empowerment, training and financing small businesses. “Not everyone benefited from the loans given to small businesses because of some errors in the system. I will ensure justice,” he said.
