Belagavi: Adapt to changing world of technology, students told
Belagavi: Advising students to take up short-term projects, former professor of IIT Roorkee, Prem Krishna, advised them on Saturday against handling long-term projects owing to the rapidly changing challenges and opportunities in the world of technology. Delivering the Visweswaraiah Technological University's convocation address in Belagavi, Mr Krishna recalled that the world had changed greatly since the digital computer appeared in the 1960s with small memory, and slow machines. “Today the large memory, high-speed and compact computing devices have become a game changer and Indian engineers and entrepreneurs need to adapt suitably by taking up short-term projects,” he explained, also noting that opportunities for exposure to the world of engineering abroad had increased greatly through conferences, exchange programmes for students and the Internet.
Pointing out that India had become the third largest economy in the world next to USA and China and was currently the fastest growing economy in the world, he observed that the nation also had an impressive number of people in the working age group as compared to even the developed countries.
So near, yet so far!
Despite securing the highest marks in all semesters, an M.Tech student of the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Suresh Masanagi, has lost out on a gold medal at its annual convocation on Saturday as his college, the Rasta Centre for Road Technology in Bengaluru , allegedly delayed in submitting his thesis to it. He claims to have been misguided by his college professor, who reportedly advised him to ignore the deadline given.
